New look Oceania Athletics championships working well, as the Pacific's elite rub shoulders with the veterans

The Oceania Athletics Championships are entering their final lap in Suva, with just two days of action left to go.

It’s been quite a week for the organisers with senior and junior athletes competing alongside masters and para-athletes in a world first multi-discipline event.

At one end of the scale there were elite athletes from across the Pacific looking to secure places at the Olympic Games in Paris, while at the other end, none other than Fiji’s Prime Minister himself, 75-year-old Sitiveni Rabuka, won a bronze medal in the Masters’ shot-putt, demonstrating that you’re never too old.

Oceania Athletics’ Competition Manager, Tom O’Shaughnessy, says they will take stock once the event is over, but right now the new format is being hailed as a success.
