Guam’s Regine Tugade, a two-time Olympian and has represented Guam in numerous competitions, was voted by her fellow athletes to be a member of the Oceania Athletics Association Athletes’ Commission.
Athletes casted their votes for who they wanted to be on the commission during the Oceania Athletics Championships in Fiji, a release from the organization states.
This is the first election of the Athletes’ Commission that was formed in 2020.
The athletes elected to the OAA Commission are:
Dame Valerie Adams (New Zealand)Alex Beddoes (Cook Islands)Chloe David (Vanuatu)Regine Tugade (Guam)
The OAA Council thanked all athletes for their interest in applying for the Commission and also thanked those athletes who were here in Fiji and casted their votes.
The OAA Council said it is committed to ensuring that the OAA Athletes’ Commission is a strong voice for the athletes and is excited to be working with the incoming commission.
Over the coming weeks the OAA Council will announce the chairperson of the Commission and will call for further nominations to fill the remaining three appointed positions to the Commission.
“I would like to thank everyone for their interest in the election of the Athletes’ Commission. The Commission is important to the continuing good governance for the Oceania Area Association. We are delighted to welcome the new members to the Commission and thank those retiring from the inaugural Commission,” OAA Council President Robin Sapong-Eugenio said in a release.
“OAA is in a fortunate position to have Dame Valerie Adams, World Athletics Athlete Commission, Chairperson/World Athletics Council Member as a member of our Commission and looks forward to her continuing guidance and support in this role,” he added.
