In the 2nd Congress of the SAMBO Union of Asia and Oceania, held on June 29 in Macau (China), delegates from Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Japan, Jordan, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Maldiva, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam took part.
Alamzhon Mullaev, president of the SAMBO Union of Asia and Oceania (SUAO), addressed the delegates. He thanked the Macau Sambo Association and personally its leader Alexandro George for the excellent organization of the Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championships, which these days are held in Macau. During the speech, the head of the SUAO summed up the results of the year and spoke about the upcoming tournaments. Then he congratulated the participants on the inclusion of SAMBO for the first time in history in the program of Asian Youth Games, which will be held in 2025 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
The first Vice President of the SUAO Suresh Gopi reported on the work of the SUAO, noting the significant successes of the organization in the development of SAMBO on the continent in recent years. He pointed out that SAMBO entered the program of various multi-sports games held in Asia.
“Over the past 10 years, we have done a huge job: if at the beginning of the journey we had only 10 federations, now 39 countries are already included in the SUAO,” Suresh Gopi emphasized.
The Director for Finance and Development of the International Sambo Federation, Alexander Korsik, read out a greeting to the participants of the Congress from the FIAS President Vasily Shestakov.
The head of the Macau Sambo Association Alexandro George expressed gratitude to everyone present for support and participation in this championship.
“We decided to hold this tournament so that SAR Macau could become the first place in China to accept the continental championship. Now we are present at a truly historical event,” Alexandro George said.
Representatives of Australia, New Zealand, Southern, Southeastern, Eastern, Western and Central Asia made a report on the development of SAMBO in the regions of the continent.
FIAS Executive Director, Professor Sergey Tabakov told the Congress about the upcoming World Games, which will be held at Chengdu (Chinese People’s Republic) in 2025, and the rules for selection for them.
“A lot of innovations in SAMBO passed through the Asian continent, and it is symbolic the World Games, in the program of which SAMBO returned almost 30 years later, will also be held in Asia – in China,” Tabakov said.
In the final part of the event, the delegates approved the decision of the Executive Committee of the SSAO, who made the application of Tashkent (Uzbekistan) to hold the Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championships 2025 among adults, youth, juniors, cadets and masters.
